ABR's powdered sorbent adsorbs heavy metals from solutions at low concentrations. It does particularly well in neutral solutions and at the low ppm (parts per million) to low ppb (parts per billion) level, where removal can be difficult or otherwise unachievable in practical applications. Examples of the metals that can be cleaned up around neutral pH are copper, mercury (to sub ppb), cadmium, arsenic, selenium, zinc and chromium.
The usefulness and value of this product is based on the difficulty of removing the traces of contaminants that make a water process stream unacceptable for environmental discharge. It is especially useful for polishing in industrial applications where businesses send contaminated water to sewer with penalty costs. One example of a large scale application is the coal fired power industry.
The sorbent is generated from biomass by a novel process and patents are currently being prepared for both the manufacture and application of the sorbent.
